Can I bring my pet's own food to be fed during his/her stay?
We can no longer accept “owner food” for pets that are boarding.  The only exception is for pets that are on a prescription diet or special diet (food allergy or health issue).
Why? We feed a high quality diet in our boarding facility and have many options for pets that may be finicky eaters. We also provide treats throughout the day. Since we are a veterinarian supervised boarding facility, it is critical that we monitor the calorie intake of every pet we care for.  We accomplish this by pairing the ingredients we serve with the proper amount of food per feeding based on each pet’s optimum weight.
Can I bring my pet's personal items like a blanket or toy?
Owners can bring 2 personal items for each pet (except Kongs-they are unlimited) and Sumner Veterinary Hospital is not responsible for lost or damaged personal items.
·         They must be permanently identified
·         We cannot accept tennis balls
·         We cannot accept bones
Why? Keeping track of personal items for each pet requires a lot of time. We are committed to dedicating our time to care for the pets entrusted to us. As such, we need to place a limit on the items we can take. All items must be permanently identified with the client’s name and pet’s name prior to their stay. Tennis balls and bones can be a choking hazard. We are not responsible in any way for lost or damaged personal items.
Can medication or supplements be administered to my pet during his/her stay?
Yes, medications and supplements must be in their original containers-no exceptions.

Why? It is imperative that we know exactly what medication (including dose and strength) or supplement we are giving a pet during their stay with us. This information helps us monitor the pet for adverse reactions as well as make the best decision for a pet in the event of illness or an emergency.

Do you have a parasite free policy?

Yes, if a pet is found to have parasites (fleas, ticks or intestinal parasites) the pet will be treated at the owners expense.

What happens if my pet becomes ill while boarding?
Medical care will be provided and the client is responsible for all fees incurred.  Sumner Veterinary Hopsital will attempt to contact your emergency number after an exam and diagnostics have been performed.  You can choose if you would like limited care given that will not exceed a predetermined dollar amount or if you would like care as deemed neccassary by the veterinarian on duty.

Are vaccines 100% effective at preventing disease?

No vaccine is 100% effective but we do everything we can to ensure that your pet is in a safe and healthy environment.  Our kennel is hygenic and well ventilated with low humidity but there are viruses that are not effected by preventative vaccines.
